Content delivery network architecture
A content delivery network (CDN) is system of distributed servers that deliver content end users. CDNs offload traffic from origin servers improving page load times and reducing bandwidth costs.
CDN architecture typically includes a control plane data plane and management plane. The control plane is responsible for routing traffic and managing resources. The data plane delivers content to end users. And the management plane provides an interface for administrators to configure and monitor the CDN.
CDNs use variety of techniques to improve performance including caching compression and load balancing. Caching stores frequently requested content at locations closer end users reducing the time it takes to retrieve content from the origin server. Compression reduces the size of files making them quicker to transfer over the network
